Our History
Redeemer’s University held a 2-day Corpus Linguistics (CL) Workshop between 1st and 2nd December 2022, which was funded by the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation, Germany. A total of 65 scholars participated physically while an average of 10 participated virtually at the workshop.
Arising from a series of discussions during the workshop, it was suggested that a corpus linguistics association be formed which should lead to the planning of a CL conference and the establishment of a CL journal.
Sequel to this, a WhatsApp forum was opened for participants from the workshop. Other scholars were also included to have a robust membership foundation for the proposed association. A proposal was made to have a Steering Committee to drive the goals of the proposed association.
The terms of reference of the Steering Committee were to get the association registered, organise the maiden conference of the association and ensure a smooth transition to a Standing Executive Committee of the association.
In addition, the Association nominated members of the Board of Trustees who were involved in registering the Association with the Corporate Affairs Commission of Nigeria. The Association was duly registered on 9th October 2023
